Step 1
Ideation and Concept Creation
Every custom design starts with a vision. I began by discussing with the client their ideas and preferences. They wanted the hoodie to reflect the sleek curves and dynamic energy of the BMW M3, while also incorporating their unique personality.
To kick things off, I provided a few initial concept sketches featuring long, flowing curves to symbolize the car’s speed and sportiness. After discussing these options with the client, we agreed on a direction that captured the car’s essence while staying true to their style.
Step 2
Sketching and Design Refinement
Using a tablet, I translated the approved concept into a detailed digital design. This stage is critical for ensuring the client can visualize the final product. The curves and patterns were carefully laid out to align with the hoodie’s natural seams, creating a dynamic flow that emphasized the hoodie’s sporty look.
The client also requested personalized elements, so I added their nickname and lucky number—triple seven—into the design, blending these details seamlessly with the overall theme.
Step 3
Preparing the Hoodie
For the base, I used a blank black hoodie made of cotton. Cotton is a highly absorbent material, which can be a challenge when working with paint. To ensure vibrant colors and minimize the number of paint layers, I began by bleaching the areas where the pattern would go.
The bleaching process gave the design an orange-like base, which served as a foundation for the brighter colors to come.
Step 4
The Painting Process
Once the base was ready, it was time to bring the design to life with paint.
- White Base Layer: I carefully applied a solid white base coat over the bleached areas, precisely following the curves and patterns outlined in the design. This step ensured that the bright yellow paint would pop against the black hoodie.
- Yellow Top Layer: After the white base dried, I applied multiple layers of yellow paint to achieve a bold and vibrant finish. Each stroke was deliberate, ensuring the color stayed sharp and aligned perfectly with the design.
The combination of colors and patterns created a striking visual effect, echoing the sleek lines and energy of the BMW M3.
Step 5
Adding Personalized Details
No custom piece is complete without a personal touch. The client’s nickname and lucky number were integrated into the design, making this hoodie truly one of a kind. These details were carefully positioned to maintain the balance and flow of the overall design.
Step 6
Presentation and Delivery
A great product deserves an equally great presentation. To elevate the unboxing experience, I packaged the hoodie in a custom gift box. This added an extra layer of thoughtfulness, turning the delivery into a special moment for the client.
Seeing the joy and excitement in their eyes when they received the finished hoodie was priceless. It’s these moments that make all the long hours and attention to detail worth it.
